Dr. Phillips's Classes - 2/6/12 to 2/10/12

Rhetoric II

The Rhetoric II class will continue a review of informal fallacies and discuss how to avoid them in speeches and writing.

Students will turn in bibliography cards on February 8th.

Antiquities

In Antiquities, we will continue examining the major events in the Persian-Greek Wars, picking up with the results of the Battle of Thermopylae. Students will continue their reading by the schedule below.

· Tuesday – Famous Men, pgs. 85-98

· Thursday – Famous Men, pgs. 99-114

Modernity

The Modernity class will begin our unit on the “New World Order” - modern changes in government, fall of monarchies, and the rise of executive power in the U.S.

Students will continue their reading by the schedule below.

· Monday – Man Who Was Thursday, chap. 8

· Wednesday – Man Who Was Thursday, chap. 9-10

Christendom

The Christendom class will continue wrapping up the high Middle Ages – the Reconquest of Spain and the Magna Carta. If time permits, we will move on to the late Middle Ages.

Students will continue reading The Story of King Arthur and His Knights by the schedule below.

· Monday – King Arthur, pgs. 255-280

· Wednesday – King Arthur, pgs. 281-304

U.S. History

In U.S. History, we will move on to the War of 1812 (major events, people, causes) and the Panic of 1819. Students will read from The Patriot’s Handbook by the schedule below.

· Tuesday – Patriot’s Handbook, pgs. 322-327

· Thursday – Patriot’s Handbook, pgs. 331-340, 342-344
