Leland 8-24-11

English 11
For each prompt, respond in a typed, double-spaced, 1-page response
- Read the first few pages of chapter 5.  Consider Miss Maudie's quote: "...sometimes the Bible in the hand of one man is worse than a whiskey bottle in the hand of--oh, of your father...There are just some kind of men who--who're so busy worrying about the next world they've never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the street and see the results."  What does Miss Maudie mean?  How might this apply to you, especially as a Christian?

- Point of view and perspective play a huge role in this book.  What does Atticus mean when he teaches Scout she must be able to climb into someone else's skin and walk around in it?  Do you believe a person can be taught to see things from another perspective, or are we too blinded by our own points of view?  Have you had to do this in your own life?  How did it change you?
